Phoenix King Ozai controls the entire Four Nations. In order to keep the provinces under control, an annual contest is held in which children with bending powers and other rebels - such as young Water National soliders and Kyoshi Warriors - are sent to arena and made to fight one another to the death.
Katara, the last of the Southern Water Tribe’s benders, is horrified when she and her brother Sokka are chosen to compete. Joining them is the blind daughter of the wealthy Bei Fong family, Toph, a Kyoshi Warrior named Suki, bounty hunter June, and Zuko, Ozai’s own disgraced son. His sister Azula, herself an accomplised firebender, and her two companions Mai and Ty Lee are charged with making sure none of the contestants escape.
Little do any of them know that, hidden in depths of their remote arena, a hundred year old boy remains locked in ice, waiting to be set free…
But what she doesn’t know, and what he does, is that the ax will return. And when it flies back over the ledge, it buried itself in her head. The cannon sounds, her body is removed, and the trumpets blow to announce Haymitch’s victory.
